Increase the Asus Eeepc screen resolution with AssTray Plus

I’ve seen various ways of making the screen resolution of the Asus eeepc higher than its maximum of 800×480, but most of these involved using patched drivers that weren’t very reliable or they didn’t support widescreen resolutions so all text and images appeared stretched. Today I tried AssTray Plus by a guy on the eeeuser forum, he goes by the name BASSAM. He’s created a way of increasing the resolution using the original drivers, so no need to install patched ones any more, plus his method supports widescreen resolutions. It works very well, some web sites now view much better as you can see from these two screen shots.

This first one is with the eeepc set to its default maximum of 800×480, as you can see the page doesn’t fully fit and has to be scrolled sideways to view the right hand side.

This one is taken using AssTray with the screen set to 1000×600, the entire page fits the screen so no more horizontal scrolling. I have increased the font size by 1 using cctrl++ in firefox to make it slightly larger but if you have good eyesight there’s no need to so this.

    >AssTray Plus

I lol’d. It’s AsTray, as in Asus Tray. Although AssTray has a lot more lolfactor.

Holly $hit this entry is nearly two years old and I hadn’t realised the mistake I made. Oh well I might as well leave it as it is for comical value :-)

Do you think this can also be installed in an ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA?

Afraid I don’t know. I haven’t used an Asus since shortly after writing this article. You’d probably get better info checking out one of the dedicated Asus forums.
