N95 8GB Vs iPod Touch

n95-ipod.jpgI’ve had my N95 8GB just over a week now and surprisingly iv found myself using the music player a lot more than I had expected. I hardly ever used it on my previous Nokia s60 phones so why this one? Each day I usually take my iPod touch out with me to listen to podcasts and some music on the walk to and from work and also when I go out for lunch, for the last week it hasn’t left the house and here’s why.

I listen to quite a few podcasts so my normal routine in a morning would be to turn on my laptop, open iTunes, download any new podcasts, sync to my iPod and set off to work. Since getting the N95 8GB that’s all changed. Podcasts are now checked hourly overnight and downloaded via WLAN directly to the handset, so I just need to grad by phone and off to work, it’s much more convenient. I did do this a few times back when I had an N80 but the lack of a regular headphone port meant it didn’t last long. Both the Podcast application and the music player show new and unlistened downloads, I just wish that they would talk to each other so that if I listen to a file in music player the podcast app would also mark it as listened, hopefully that will be something for a future update.

Sound quality is on a par with the iPod when listening to music. I haven’t got audiophile ears so many would disagree.

Advantages of the N95 8GB over the iPod touch

Direct downloading of podcasts straight to the device.

Physical buttons so it can be operated from within a pocket.

Bluetooth headphones without additional hardware.

Advantages of the iPod touch over the N95 8GB

More storage space.

Larger screen for watching films/tv and video podcasts.

Longer battery life.

They are both great music players but at the moment for my audio listening needs the Nokia has the edge. I’ll still be keeping my iPod for long journeys as I’m not a great lover of having one device that does everything, if it fails your screwed.
